We’ve diesel stocks to run for over 2 weeks – NPA

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has ruled out reports of diesel shortage on the market, insisting, the country has adequate stocks to last for more than two weeks.

It follows reports that some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are struggling to secure diesel from Bulk Oil Distribution Companies.

This resulted in shortages at some service stations in the capital city of Accra in the Greater Accra region.

Head of Pricing at the NPA, Abass Ibrahim Tasunti, said his outfit has worked harder to ensure there is adequate fuel in stock.

“Per our records, there is enough diesel to meet our demand as a country. As at now we have diesel to last us up till about two weeks. We also have vessels scheduled to deliver petroleum products to the country. We have almost five vessels scheduled to deliver up to the end of this month.”

“We want to allay the fears that there is a shortage of fuel”, he added.

Since last week, there have been reported shortages of diesel at some OMCs.

But Abass Ibrahim Tasunti said “we have vessels that are also scheduled to deliver products. As we speak, the vessel is discharging gas oil. We have other vessels that are scheduled to deliver products and all the importers have confirmed their ability to perform”.

“So no one has indicated that they will not be able to deliver what they are scheduled to deliver”, he added.
